Donations & Endowments

Unlike a non-profit association, the University Foundation may and should build up assets to fulfill its purposes. The foundation's core assets may not be touched. The foundation operates with capital gains. The more assets it can build, the more money can be distributed for future projects. 

To this end, citizens of the city and region, as well as regional companies and graduates, are encouraged to support the University of Bayreuth through tax-advantaged endowments and donations.

"When someone donates money to the foundation, it is, so to speak, an investment for eternity. The endowments remain permanently, as distributions are financed solely through income, while the core assets remain untouched," says University President Prof. Dr. Stefan Leible. In this respect, Leible also hopes that this foundation will be seen in the region as a good opportunity to create lasting value for the promotion of science, for example, through an inheritance or monetary donations of any amount. "This would be an outstanding and particularly sustainable example of civic engagement – ​​and a tremendous contribution to quality assurance at the University of Bayreuth," emphasizes the University President.
